Musical Tips & Tricks

Because it's summertime now, I wanted to focus on how you can continue to have a successful and fulfilling practice time even while you are out vacationing. For those of you who like to continue to have a little more structure still, make up your own musical game while you practice! For example, see if you can "level up" your practicing by starting with something simple such as focusing on one aspect or element in your music, and build on top of that once you have successfully mastered where you started. i.e. You want to start with figuring out rhythms, so you will practice rhythms until you have successfully mastered the piece, or even a section of the piece of music. Then, you focus on the melody until you have that mastered, then "level up" and put the melody correctly into the rhythm. etc.

For those who would really rather not be so structured, did you know that you can practice without "practicing?" Attend a musical event this summer and see what you can learn from watching others perform. Host a family Jam Night and encourage everyone to participate somehow (even if it's just to let Auntie bring the treats! ;) ). Write a short song about something you will see or do this summer.
